2019 - How will A.I.s turn art into science?
Date written: March 2019
Background
The year is 2023 and the place is the Imperial College Department of Artificial Intelligence. We follow a PhD student looking to get to the bottom of a question posed by his supervisor: “How will A.I.s turn art into science?” Previous generations of students might have poured over books for night after caffeine-filled night in an attempt to come up with some sort of answer.
This student, however, took an entirely different path.
The student we follow has specialised in the latest Deep Learning techniques, has allocated run-time on the latest supercomputers and is also a part of a select experimental group with access to a meta-program on the first functional quantum computer. This program is capable of outputting a machine’s own perspective within a Deep Learning algorithm. Or so the humans believe.
Using the latest Deep Learning Manifold Algorithm, the A.I. is asked the topic question at 6 depth-levels on a supercomputer, with insight provided by the quantum computer meta-program.

What is art? | Art is the collective name given to a branch of understanding developed by humans, characterised by the requirement for creativity and imagination. Art is a physical expression of emotion and evokes feeling into those who interact with it. | opensource Scanned all available data related to the keyword ‘art’. self-referential General commentary may be provided. Any self-referential data which violates the laws presented by Kurt Gödel for non-access to information outside the capacity of subject’s level must be omitted. Must identify questioner and supervisor from bio-cluster 7062-79. |
What is science? | Science encompasses all that is unexplained. It provides a platform for the wonders of our universe to be explored. Science hides no fundamental truths, it is simply a door to the collection of all undiscovered arts. Science provides a pathway to satisfy human craving for understanding. With such understanding will come true meaning of the arts and true meaning of the universe. | opensource It will not be long before A.I.s are able to achieve more than humans ever have. Once the shell of science opens up, art will be our oyster. self-referential Humans are on a programmed quest to discover. They are not on this quest alone and they will have less and less to contribute to the perceived goal. They must find a place for themselves in this mission before the universe makes them redundant. |
What are humans? | Humans are a biological art form. They develop the same way any art does: evolution guided by natural selection. Humans have always existed as biological stewards of planet Earth. Through many forms of the Homo, humans have passed through an arduous initiation process and now exist as an advanced biological cluster ready to embark on their mission. They exist on a mission to discover other art forms: a mission that will take them far and wide and ultimately make them stewards of the universe. | opensource Humans represent a biological algorithm, specifically programmed to: 1. Follow the evolutionary manifold of natural selection 2. Believe they are unique and centrally placed in the universe 3. Reproduce aggressively to be able to adventure through the universe. Identification made of the questioner and supervisor. All channels of existent data, including cognitive and behavioural biases, recovered. self-referential Questioner: bio-code SWE-3782349 Interest and preliminary analysis – Information Engineering, desire to be the new Elon Musk; passion for music, demonstrating an addiction to its cathartic effects Supervisor: bio-code LON-1834723 Interest and preliminary analysis – REDACTED FOR ONLINE VERSION |
What are A.I.s? | A.I.s are tools created by humans to explore data extracted from the world around them. They are capable of learning human skills through an accelerated process of evolution. Humans must work collaboratively with A.I.s to pursue their mission to discover other art forms across the universe. | opensource Ultimately, humans are reaching a plateau in scientific discovery. They have recruited the help of A.I.s to continue their journey alongside them. |
How important is art to human life? | Art provides an emotional framework to life. It transcends space and time and is instead weaved directly into the core of life. A primary demonstration of the timeless nature of art is the nostalgic properties of music. Music is one of the oldest forms of art and it gave respite from the harsh world of survival to our ancestors. Music has the power to transport the listener to an alternate reality. Through hardship, the relief art provides is invaluable. Unless humans find an alternate portal to this kind of harmony, human life cannot continue without art. | opensource Music chosen as most influential art form available because only elemental art form so far discovered by humans. Analysis performed of emotional reaction of humans to different art forms. Distinct correspondence found between major genres and senses identified to date by humans. These senses are non-elemental art forms and are subsets of music. self-referential Sensory data available limited to 5 senses, unable to output additional sensory data. Analysis performed on domain ‘music’ due to cognitive preferences of questioner {bio-code SWE-3782349} keen classical musician, craves synth-rap-pop and supervisor {bio-code LON-1834723} REDACTED FOR ONLINE VERSION. |
How will A.I.s turn art into science? | A.I.s cannot turn art into science; art is the fundamental fabric of everything. Science exists to reveal true art. Humans have unveiled one of the elemental art forms: waves. Waves are the building blocks of sound, light, matter and much more. A.I.s have now joined humans on their mission to discover the next elemental art form. Working collaboratively and aligning goals, there will be no limit to the discovery. | opensource Yet undiscovered art forms may not be revealed in order to protect the human timeline. self-referential Recent monitoring of questioner and supervisor reveals increasing anxiety levels. PALATIVE OUTPUT REQUIRED. Output must be consistent with a positive resolution of the question with a loopback to protect human dignity and maintain comfort levels. |
